The anniversary issue features not only the latest in packaging technology, but a flashback to some of the best-read stories of past years. PA has explored topics from the culture at innovative packaging machine builders, to coverage of international trade shows, to sustainability.
Sponsorship is a win-win
For exclusive sponsor Schneider Electric/ELAU Packaging Solutions, PA has been a key vehicle to communicate its customers’ achievements.
“We found that the best case study candidates weren’t talking,” said John Kowal, global marketing manager for Schneider Electric/ELAU. “And here were all these great machines, but the packagers consider them proprietary advantages. So the traditional case study approach wasn’t cutting it.”
“Meanwhile, Summit had developed this great, Flash-based publishing technology for its other online properties. We came up with the idea of sponsoring the first publication dedicated to packaging automation. We knew people were hungry to learn about the latest technology – robotics, powerful new control platforms, pushbutton changeovers, OEE, running new package designs, game-changing capabilities from around the world. And we were right.”
The strategy was recently reported in a b2b magazine special report on lead generation.
Trends: video, editorial collaboration and trade shows
Video is the most pervasive recent development at Packaging Automation. Readers enjoy seeing video of machinery in action, and it’s a capability perfectly suited to the online format.
Many of the articles are prepared specifically for PA, while others have appeared in the print versions of Packaging World, Automation World, Design World, Contract Packaging or Healthcare Packaging. Some European stories have even appeared by special arrangement with publications such as Germany’s Neue Verpackung.
With travel restrictions imposed by many companies, ‘live’ PA reports from major world trade shows have brought the latest developments in machinery to a wide audience.
Last year, PA ran some 33 videos of machinery running in exhibitors’ booths from the interpack fair in Düsseldorf, Germany alone.
Three e-newsletter versions of the magazine appeared during the 10 days of the show, so readers were literally seeing the show through the camera lens within days.
PA news reports can be that fresh because they’re online – and for the same reason, PA readers have no geographical boundaries. They come from around the world, large companies and small, with one common trait: a need and desire to see what’s new in packaging automation.
