COOL kaput?

Opponents of country-of-origin labeling are hoping the results of last November’s elections will enable them to win repeal of mandatory COOL labeling, scheduled to take effect in 2006.

The defeat of Sen. Tom Daschle (D-SD), one of the law’s main champions, should ease repeal efforts. Opponents of COOL said they would press their case because the costs of implementing the labeling far outweigh any benefit.
