Nathan's gives the nod to nostalgia

"Because Nathan's is an old-fashioned Coney Island restaurant, we wanted to bring back the feel of an old-fashioned squeeze bottle instead of something modern." That's how Steven Gold, president of Gold Pure Food Products in Hempstead, NY, explains his firm's selection of a 12-oz high-density polyethylene cylinder from Silgan Plastics (Chesterfield, MO) for a new 12-oz addition to Gold's line of Nathan's® Famous Original Coney Island Deli Style Mustard.

He adds, "The bottle had to be squeezable and maintain the look of a typical diner-style mustard bottle. Silgan's cylinder fit our needs perfectly." The bottles are finished with a HDPE closure from Stull (Randolph, NJ). The 2-mil polyvinyl chloride shrink labels are gravure printed in five colors by Halpak Plastics (Deer Park, NY). The label converter also applies a special adhesive to help the full-wrap label "grab" onto the bottle. Launched in July, the 12-oz mustard bottles sell for about $1.29.
