The disclosure statement about irradiation can be sized no bigger than that used in the list of ingredients. Previously, symbol and statement had to be displayed prominently and conspicuously.

Prodded by a provision in the FDA modernization law, the FDA finally ruled in favor of allowing irradiation of red meat. As with other irradiated products, consumers will be able to identify irradiated meat by the international irradiation symbol and a written statement on the package.
