PET bottle resin companies seek relief

An organization called the U.S. PET Resin Producers Coalition in late March filed petitions with the United States Department of Commerce and International Trade Commission requesting an investigation of unfair trade practices by PET resin producers in India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Taiwan.

The petitions allege that resin manufacturers in those countries have been dumping resin, selling it in the United States at prices well below those companies’ fully loaded costs. The import sales, the group contends, do not reflect the substantial cost increases for raw materials that constitute the major cost for resin producers. The Coalition also claims that companies in India and Thailand have been unfairly subsidized by their respective governments.

The petitioning members of the Coalition include DAK Americas, LLC, NanYa Plastics Corp. America, Voridian, a division of Eastman Chemical, and Wellman, Inc. The petitions were developed by counsel, Howrey Simon Arnold & White, LLP, at 202/383-6527.
