Clearly Canadian and Warner-Lambert have teamed up in a joint sampling program to promote gum and sparkling water. Throughout the summer, three million 1-L polyethylene terephthalate bottles of Clearly Canadian's wild cherry-flavored sparkling water will have their necks adorned with a five-stick sample pack of cherry Trident gum from Morris Plains, NJ-based Warner-Lambert.

Drug labeling for the elderly
The Alliance for Aging Research, an umbrella organization for geriatrics-related study groups, has recommended that the Department of Health and Human Services develop a list of medications that are "potentially inappropriate for use in older persons" and another "red alert" list of medications that rarely, if ever, should be used with the elderly.

USDA has expanded its so-called "70-30 rule" for meat labeling to apply to poultry, as well. That means no label changes are necessary when two types of poultry ingredients are present in processed foods in slightly varying amounts.

George Gordon Associates (Nashua, NH) has introduced the Layer Pack Model LP-2000 gaylord/pallet loading system. The LP-2000 is said to be unique because it uses a live matrix generating table to provide non-contact handling of highly decorated or odd-shaped items to be packed, yet is said to provide 50% more density than other packing methods.
