Addressing e-commerce

Executives from packaged goods manufacturers, logistics companies and packaging suppliers will address the topic Packaging for e-commerce direct-to-consumers June 8 and 9 in San Francisco.

The two-day program is broken into three key areas where e-commerce is beginning to have significant impact: on packaging structures, materials and functionality; on packaging brand communication; and on order picking, packing and shipping. Each of the three sessions will conclude with panel discussions involving audience participation.

Alex Zelikovsky will deliver the keynote address on June 8. The former director of logistics at Amazon.com is now the vice president and chief logistics officer at reflect.com, a San Francisco-based business that markets beauty products—including shampoos, body washes and cosmetics—to women strictly via the Internet. Products are customized to each consumer based on a beauty profile the woman creates on the reflect.com Web site. The company ships orders from its Cincinnati, OH, distribution center directly to consumers in custom packaging.

“Packaging for e-commerce direct-to-consumers” is hosted by Michigan State University School of Packaging. For more information, contact Dr. Robert LaMoreaux at MSU, 517/355-3603. The program is sponsored by Packaging World and chaired by Joe Kornick, principal at KornickLindsay (Chicago, IL), a packaging design and development firm.
