BIC says 'opaa' to shaver packaging (sidebar)

Two-pack, too

While the development work focused on the five- and 10-packs, BIC also developed a two-pack trial size, but in a totally different package. The two-pack, also produced in Greece, is packaged on a thermoform/fill/seal line with a blister shaped to accommodate the product, an insert card and sealing with a printed film. Selling for about $1, this pack allows consumers to try the Softwin, without investing in a large number of shavers, says Heather Kilgore, BIC’s shaver product manager.

“It’s a nice introductory package that resembles the five- and 10-packs,” she says. Kilgore reports that the five-pack’s suggested retail price is $3.59; the 10-pack sells for about $5.83. She adds that BIC developed a considerable number of point-of-purchase aids, including special freestanding merchandisers that are being widely used.
