Fen/phen is a combination of fenfluramine and phentermine, both of which are approved for short-term use, though not specifically in combination. Studies are planned of fen/phen users, as well as for several other chemically similar prescription drugs used in dieting.

FDA announced it plans to require warnings on labels of the popular prescription diet drug "fen/phen" after receiving reports that the drug combination can cause serious damage to heart valves.
