Glass-clear multilayer containers

NEWS FROM PACK EXPO: Patent-pending Gamma-Clear™ multilayer, oxygen-barrier OPP containers from Pechiney Plastic Packaging (Chicago, IL) offer glasslike clarity for packing food products at a lower cost than multilayer PET containers, the company says.

The OPP/EVOH/OPP containers are currently available as 15- and 26-oz widemouth jars, making them ideal for high-acid products including tomato-based sauces, salsa, jams, jellies, and fruits. The oxygen transmission rate of .003 cc/jar/day provides extended shelf life. Pechiney claims fill temperatures equal to or above that for heat-set PET containers (205? F).
