True innovation in package design is rare. Clever application of the innovation in a brand strategy is even more rare.

That’s why we would like to give kudos to the new self-illuminating bar bottle launched by Ballantine’s scotch whiskey.

Featuring a high-tech self-illuminating label employing electroluminescent technology, the dark blue spray coated bottle sports a graphic equalizer that appears to react to loud music in the bar.

Better yet, the campaign behind it, “The ‘Listen to Your Beat’ initiative is based on the idea that by listening to your own beat and following your own instincts, you will make choices that leave an impression on others,” according to the article on website Packaging News from the UK.

Ballantine’s global brand director Peter Moore said: "The initiative will energize our on-trade accounts by engaging consumers in a creative and eye catching way.”

Cool idea. Cool package.
