Budweiser wins right to name in Sweden

Anheuser-Busch has won the exclusive right to use the "Budweiser" name in Sweden, defeating a Czech competitor's attempt to label its beer bottles with the name.

Sweden's Supreme Court upheld an appeal court's decision barring Budejovicky Budvar NP from using "Budweiser Budvar" on its labels, packaging and advertising. The court battle started in 1999 when U.S.-based Anheuser-Busch registered "Budweiser" name in Sweden. The brewers have battled in about 50 countries since takeover talks failed in the 1990s.
