Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. recently launched YES!, a new global rapid availability program for its line of APEX metal detectors.

The company has developed the program to address a variety of time-critical issues ranging from crisis response for recalls to production disruptions due to equipment failure. The Thermo Scientific APEX metal detector line is known worldwide for its sensitivity, accuracy, durability and high-level performance.

Until now, food processors have had to either try to find a used metal detector or borrow one from a different manufacturing line or facility to address an immediate product contamination inspection requirement.

In most countries around the world, food processing facilities will now be able to take delivery of a new APEX metal detector in less than 48 hours, versus the industry standard of four-to-six weeks.

“Food processors do not have the luxury of waiting several weeks to receive equipment to address a foreign object contamination issue. When a problem presents itself, it is critical that a solution be found immediately. As a result, we’ve established YES!, the first global rapid response program for metal detectors,” explained Bob Ries, lead product manager, metal detection and x-ray inspection, Thermo Fisher.

In addition to addressing crisis issues, the YES! rapid availability program helps minimize the impact of production line shutdowns due to a metal detector going offline.  With more grocery chains and big box retailers mandating foreign object contamination inspection for the food products sold on their store shelves, the rapid availability program is also ideal for last-minute customer audits.
