Plastic Technologies expands representation agreement with Toyo Seikan

Plastic Technologies, Inc. (PTI), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) package developer, has announced that its representation agreement with Toyo Seikan Co., Ltd., Tokyo, has been expanded; PTI will be the exclusive agent in Europe for the sales and licensing of Toyo Seikan’s Fi-Cell foamed PET bottle processing technology for packaging applications.

Last year, the company announced its exclusive representation of Fi-Cell technology in the United States.

“Over the past six months, our representatives in Europe have explored brand-owner interest in Fi-Cell technology in those regions. We are already working with companies in those areas to develop commercially-viable bottles. This new announcement is a natural extension of the relationship that was already in place,” said Scott Steele, president.

Fi-Cell foamed PET bottle technology produces lightweight containers with good barrier attributes and striking visual/tactile attributes. Monolayer bottles feature a smooth inner and outer wall surface. (Other foamed bottle technologies require an overmolded bottle to achieve a similar result.) The introduction is particularly significant for carbonated beverage applications that require a smooth inner wall for an accurate fill.

“PTI’s European office has extensive experience in working with brand owners on the continent, as well as supporting the needs of multinational companies. Due to our compatible areas of interest and ongoing working relationship, it was logical to expand the geographic boundaries of the relationship,” said Toshio Sue, deputy head of technical headquarters, Toyo Seikan.
