On August 4, Emmi Roth will be breaking ground on its new U.S. headquarters and cheese conversion site in Stoughton, Wisc. Expected to be operational at the end of next year, the 134,000-sq-ft facility will add to the company’s conversion and distribution capabilities. It also will create 100 new local jobs.

The decision to build the new site was made largely due to Emmi Roth’s 2021 acquisition of the Athenos business, which increased the company’s specialty cheese portfolio.

“The primary purpose of this facility is cheese conversion,” says Jordan Ehlen, Emmi Roth’s director of manufacturing. “Conversion is the process of taking cheeses from their original, larger form, and crumbling, shredding, or portioning them into their end form. Conversion allows us to provide different packaging options to customers and consumers, based on their needs—which may be a cup, bag, chunk, wedge, or other forms.

“This facility ultimately allows us to be agile so that we can quickly react to changes and get our new cheese innovations to market faster,” adds Ehlen.

“This is an exciting chapter in Emmi Roth’s history,” says Tim Omer, president and managing director of Emmi Roth. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of our team, we’re proud to be breaking ground in Stoughton, a vibrant farming community which fits with our steadfast commitment to Wisconsin’s dairy industry.”

The U.S. subsidiary of Switzerland-based Emmi Group, Emmi Roth makes and imports cheeses and owns several brands, including Athenos, Kindred Creamery, Emmi USA, and Roth Cheese. Emmi Roth currently has facilities in Monroe, Platteville, and Seymour, Wisc.
