Diageo Building Its First Carbon Neutral Distillery

The facility under construction in Kentucky will be powered by 100% renewable electricity, reinforcing Diageo’s global commitment to reducing its carbon emissions and addressing climate change.

Diageo New Plant

The new Diageo distillery, currently under construction in Lebanon, Kentucky, is expected to be one of the largest carbon neutral distilleries in North America. To achieve carbon neutrality, Diageo plans to incorporate a variety of features, including electrification of operations, energy efficiency embedded into the facility design, sourcing renewable electricity, a water-savings design, and zero waste to landfill, at the 72,000-sq-ft distillery, dry house, and warehousing facilities, which will avoid annual carbon emissions by more than 117,000 metric tons.

Gray, a fully integrated service provider specializing in engineering, design, and construction, is partnering with Diageo on the project. Through the Gray family of brands, complete turnkey solutions have been integrated into the site, which is expected to begin production in the first half of 2021.
