Irradiated foods--not in New Jersey!

The food industry may finally have won its long battle to win approval of irradiation as a potent food safety process, but it didn't cut any ice in New Jersey.

A bill under consideration in the State Assembly would prohibit the sale and distribution of irradiated food products in the state for five years. National Food Processors Assn. testified in strong opposition to the bill before the Consumer Affairs and Regulated Professions Committee, saying the bill was not "scientifically justified."
