The spatula, not your finger, should be used to dip into the product. That's because bacteria found on your fingertip is introduced into your cream every time you dip. The microbes love the lotion, which is as nutritious for them as it is for your face. Contaminating the product could wipe out its benefits by altering its pH balance. So don't discard your spatula. Another way to avoid bacteria — pump dispensers. You'll save your skin, and save the cost of using a product you've rendered ineffective.
