A grateful label design

Wine packager, Allied Domecq Wines recently turned to Michael Osborne Design to create new packaging for its J.Garcia Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot wines.

Using original Jerry Garcia artwork, the labels employ a bold array of colors, shapes, and sizes. The decoration symbolizes the beautiful and complex nature of Garcia’s abstract art, designers say. Working closely with Allied Domecq, designers created packaging with a strong shelf presence, identifying the wines as upscale, yet fun and approachable. For the Chardonnay, MOD designers created a label using Garcia’s piece “Facets II,” utilizing vibrant yellows and reds with hints of blues. For the Cabernet Sauvignon, the label depicts the painting “Snail Garden,” done in muted reds and oranges with a green background. The Merlot, is decorated with “Clockworks” painted in deep rich reds, yellows, and oranges against a white background. Allied Domecq Wines are available nationwide in most fine liquor and grocery stores.
