Latin America: this can's for you

Since October, Bud drinkers across most of Latin America found the venerable brew in a fluted aluminum can. St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch is rolling out the new 12-oz, 211-dia can as a permanent replacement for standard cans of Budweiser in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica and Belize.

It's the first fluted can to be used in the region, says the company, and it's the same design that the company has used for Michelob cans in the U.S. The can supplier is Metal Container Corp. (Windsor, CO), subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch. Why a fluted Budweiser can for Latin America and not the U.S.? "Latin Ameri- can beer drinkers have a great appreciation for creative and innovative packaging," says Charlie Acevedo, director of marketing in Latin America. "Because Budweiser is our primary brand in Latin America, it was natural for us to bring this can to these markets." Vertically oriented graphics accompanied the can's intro change.
