Five packaging lines handle the majority of B-F’s Lynchburg plant output. Three smaller lines handle the glass miniatures, plastic bottles, and single-barrel decanters. Cauble says, “Three of the lines that used to be pretty much manual from one end to the other have been upgraded to the point where they are PLC-controlled. Our mechanics can troubleshoot those lines from the maintenance shop.” The distiller’s programmable logic controller (PLC) supplier is Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. The wireless communications supplier is Cisco Systems, Inc. Cauble reports, “Our wireless communications system in the plant is working very well. We have not encountered any problems with wireless transmission interference, nor with wireless signal security.”
