“We had never before worked with Toray,” informs Dave Wallace, an Exopack account manager responsible for Kellogg. “Our main concern was Toray’s ability to meet our needs and those of our customer. However, Toray proved to be easy to work with, very technically competent, and open and proactive in meeting our needs as well as those of Kellogg.”
Exopack prints the Lumirror® PA1K film by rotogravure and flexographic processes using three colors and laminates it in-line. “The print jobs are reverse-printed on the clear polyester and laminated in-line to the heat-sealable metallized polypropylene film. This gives us the flexibility to meet Kellogg’s needs on a timely basis,” explains Jay Chick, Product Development Engineer, Exopack. Chick oversees the process of converting raw materials into finished goods that run on Kellogg packaging equipment.
The finished rolls of 14.25 in. diameter are shipped to Kellogg. “That size was selected to make them easy for Kellogg’s line operators to use,” Chick says.
Exopack also found both the PET and heat-sealable metallized OPP films easy to work with. “We encountered no real challenges in producing the final structure,” says Chick. “The thinner gauge was not a problem at all, because we routinely print and laminate similar structures in similar gauges.”
