Slaying the technology beast (sidebar)

Nestlé Beverage Co., San Francisco, CA, sets high standards in what it seeks in a packaging development engineer, according to a recent help-wanted classified ad appearing in Packaging World. From a technical perspective, the company expects a degree in package engineering, three years' industry experience with at least a year in product development, packaging technology, packaging or specification development. The company prefers someone with plant line trial experience. The candidate should have experience with software programs MS Word, Excel and Project. The person in this position will be responsible for project support and specification maintenance to Packaging Development Managers. He or she will also be involved in researching technical information from suppliers and the coordination and management of packaging projects. Coordinating the interface between plant equipment and packaging equipment is another function, as is obtaining package samples and the review and approval of artboards. From a personal perspective, Nestlé Beverage is interested only in team players who are highly motivated self-starters looking for innovation. And candidates must have excellent written and verbal skills, and pass drug screening. Apparently, walking on water is still optional.
