A database of more than 1깪 companies that buy and sell post-industrial and post-consumer recycled plastics is online at www.plastics.ca/epic. The database includes companies in the U.S. and Canada, and it comes with comprehensive search tools. Users can search by both plastic type (PET, HDPE, LDPE, etc.) and application (soft drink bottles, tubs, containers, etc.). Search results list company name, contact name and phone number. Each company in the database contains a complete profile of the types of plastics it accepts. The site is maintained by the Canada-based Environment and Plastics Industry Council (EPIC).

Also up north is a supplier site from Western Canada Testing that’s dedicated to package testing at www.packagetesting.mb.ca. The site has sections on package testing for dangerous goods, IBCs, or pre-shipment applications. Each section lists in detail the tests that are conducted and the testing standards that are used.

Dow Chemical has launched a Web site for its Saran packaging films at www.dowsaran.com. Visitors can search by application (cheese, hard food, dry candy, etc.) or process (lamination, extrusion, coating, etc.). Users can also browse by actual film grade. A listing for each grade contains a description, key facts, applications and processes. Drop-down menus, extensive cross links and an absence of clutter make the site easy to use.

The Web site of Fast Track Systems (www.fasttracksystems.com) is dedicated to its FASTStuff™ Packaging system that feeds, crumples and cuts recycled kraft paper for void-fill applications. The site is focused on end-user benefits, with sections on increasing productivity and profits. It also details cushioning performance specs. Users can take advantage of a free analysis program by filling out a form that asks detailed questions about the visitor’s packaging application.
