Appliance maker chooses Sonoco as package partner

BSH Home Appliances Corp., Huntington Beach, CA, has entered into a five-year packaging supply agreement with Sonoco.

BSH, a joint venture of Robert Bosch and Siemens AG for home appliances, makes premium laundry, cooking and dishwashing appliances for the North American market.

Sonoco will serve as BSH’s strategic supplier at its New Bern, NC, manufacturing complex. Sonoco will establish operations adjacent to the BSH complex to manufacture molded foam and to serve as a hub for sourcing and supplying all of BSH’s packaging needs, including Sonoco’s patented Sonopost[r] corner-post technology.

“Sonoco has a very good reputation within the appliance industry,” says Dr. Clemens Schaller, executive vice president of BSH. “With our commitment to the U.S. market, it was very important for us to select the right partner to help us as we introduce new products. Sonoco is demonstrating its commitment to BSH by supporting its initiative to serve the U.S. market out of U.S. facilities with supplier partners that provide local, just-in-time support.”

Sonoco will also provide package design and testing services, via its Engineering & Testing Center in Nashville, TN. “We are excited about the opportunity to apply Sonoco’s experience in protective packaging design, testing, manufacturing, and services for the appliance industry for BSH,” said Charles Coker, Jr., vice president and general manager of Sonoco’s Protective Packaging division. “We are very pleased to have earned this opportunity to establish a long-term relationship with such an internationally prestigious company as BSH."
