Hair colorant dispenser finds its roots

New York-based Revlon Consumer Products' Beauty Care Division was the first company to use Stull Closure Technologies' (Randolph, NJ) Snip-Tip friction-fit dispensing closure.

Introduced nationally last October, Revlon's Shadings(TM) hair colorant uses a 24-mm Snip-Tip closure with a 1 1/2" spout height. By snipping off the tip of the spout with scissors, women can easily apply the product, which is designed to retain natural hair color while gently blending away the gray. Stull's injection-molded low-density polyethylene closure fits onto a high-density PE bottle, injection/ blow-molded by Revlon. The bottle holds 2 oz of hydrogen peroxide. A second glass bottle contains 2 oz of colorant. The consumer pours the colorant into the HDPE bottle, reapplies the closure, snips the tip, then uses the product as directed. The length of the dispenser makes it easier to get right down to the roots. A folding carton contains the two bottles. "The Snip-Tip design works well because it's easy for the consumer to snip off and provides good control during use," says Glenn Geardino, group director of packaging development for the division. Packaged at Revlon's Jacksonville, FL plant, the product's success has since triggered the addition of three new shades.
