New packaging for herbal supplements uses 97% PCR plastic

Nature’s Way debuts a square bottle for its 300-item herbal line that is made from 97% PCR HDPE. The packaging is expected to reuse 350 tons of plastic per year.

Uncommon in the supplement industry, the square bottle brings a fresh look to capture consumer attention at the retail shelf.

Vitamin and supplement maker Nature’s Way has unveiled a new line of more sustainable packaging for its herbal line, which consists of more than 300 items, including Ginkgold, Saw Palmetto, Ginger Root, Activated Charcoal, and Turmeric. To continue pursuit of a positive impact on the earth, the new packaging from TricorBraun is made up of 97% post-consumer recycled high-density polyethylene.

According to the company, its aim over the last several years has been to contribute to less waste and recycle all the materials it can by diverting more than 70% of waste to recycling facilities. The company says it continues to make sustainability improvements, and the new sustainable packaging, made of old milk jugs, is another example of how Nature’s Way is achieving that goal. This initiative is expected to reuse 350 tons of plastic annually.

“At Nature’s Way, we are always striving to improve our sustainability practices and know it’s also a core value of our consumers. We often talk about how ‘We Go Where Herbs Grow Best’ to bring consumers the best the Earth has to offer, and in tandem with that promise, we know that we need to respect and care for the planet that provides those gifts. That’s why we are excited to introduce our new innovative packaging in celebration of our 50th birthday,” says Nature’s Way Brand Manager Dan Countryman.

“Square bottles are not common in the supplement industry, and this new design brings a fresh look to capture consumer attention at retail shelves, while also tying together the herbal line in a cohesive way,” says SVP, Marketing, Design & Engineering at TricorBraun, Becky Donner.

The new packaging is being rolled out over the next few months and will be available at Sprouts, Kroger, Whole Foods Market, Publix, Wakefern, and CVS stores, as well as at local natural grocery stores, co-ops, and online retailers like Amazon.
