Dispenser gives closure to carpet cleaner

Spartanburg, SC-based Milliken & Co.'s Capture Carpet Cleaner now enjoys trouble-free dispensing thanks to the hinged Flapper® closure from Weatherchem (www.weatherchem.com).

Milliken worked with its supplier (and Weatherchem partner) TricorBraun (www.tricorbraun.com) to select the injection-molded polypropylene 89-400 Flapper closure. “The Flapper provides easy, trouble-free convenience of controlled dispensing to our product,” says Scott McDowell, product line manager for Milliken & Co.

He explains that the powdered Capture Carpet Cleaner “is about a 20-year-old consumer product, and in 2005 we added the Flapper closure as part of a rebranding effort that makes the container easier for consumers to open and dispense compared with the previous version.”

Milliken & Co. uses the same Flapper closure for 1-, 2½-, and 4-lb sizes, all in high-density polyethylene bottles. Product is filled by Milliken at a plant in South Carolina. McDowell says the new closure required only modest equipment changes, such as capping chucks.

McDowell explains, “The cap allows the use of induction liners offering tamper-evidence and long shelf life. With easier opening and reclosing of this package, we provide a secure seal when the product is not in use.”

Consumers have responded positively to the change, McDowell says. Capture Carpet Cleaner sells at home center, department, and grocery stores. Containers can be purchased for $6.99, $11.99, or $19.99, for the 1-, 2½-, and 4-lb versions, or in a boxed kit that includes a pre-mist spray-nozzle bottle and brush. The kits sell for $12.99, $18.99, and $29.99 for the respective sizes.
