Redesigned syrup container

Jefferson, TX-based Blackburn Syrup challenged TricorBraun’s (St. Louis, MO) design group to redesign its 24-oz clarified polypropylene syrup bottle. The extrusion-blown bottle is created from a six-cavity mold designed by TricorBraun.

Pw 16564 Syrup

According to designers, this particular mold was created with the knowledge that the syrup company didn’t want to invest in new retrofitted filling equipment. The traditional-shaped bottle is topped with a yellow snap closure from Seaquist Closures (Mukwonago, WI). The new label was designed in house by designers at Blackburn. According to Ronnie Bullard, vp of operations at Blackburn, their main design goal was to maintain a look of nostalgia, but update it a bit. For the bottle shape, the company was looking for a slimmer shape that would fit more easily in the hand. Designers at TricorBraun were interested in modernizing the look of the package, while also differentiating it from the competition. Blackburn syrup is available in 23 states and retails for $1.49.
