Whatever happened to...?

In an effort to reduce its regulatory backlog, FDA decided to withdraw 83 proposed actions published more than five years ago.

The agency determined that, given its limited resources and its intention to focus on current health issues, these actions are not likely to be of sufficient priority for final action. Some have become outdated and would require additional information and another comment period. Actions slated to be dropped include those that were published as far back as 1975. Approximately 15 of the actions relate to labeling, such as the designation of ingredients in cheese and cheese products (1984), standards of identity for yogurt products (1991), and metric labeling (1993).
