That's what the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) urged to the Codex Alimentarius Commission, an international food safety regulatory body. At stake is labeling of products in international marketing. "Organic" should refer to foods grown without use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers, AFFI contends. Genetically modified organisms, therefore, can be grown organically and so labeled. AFFI was responding to Codex's draft recommendation on labeling of foods obtained though biotechnology.
