2013 Industrial Automation Engineering scholarships

Applications for the 2013/2014 ASCO Numatics Industrial Automation Engineering Scholarship program are now being accepted.

Asco Numatics, a leading manufacturer of comprehensive fluid automation, flow control, and pneumatics solutions, is the sponsor of this program, under which two $5,000 scholarships are awarded to U.S. engineering students. The program also provides two $1,000 grants to the engineering departments of the colleges at which the winners are enrolled, and it hosts the two winners as all-expense paid guests at The Amazing Packaging Race at PMMI’s Pack Expo Las Vegas 2013. The deadline to apply is May 24, 2013. Details and forms are available at: http://www.asconumatics.com/scholarship.

“Engineering is a unique blend of creativity, science, and technology. Advancements have never been more rapid or exciting. Are we ready for the challenges of tomorrow? As a global industry leader today, it is our responsibility to ensure that we are,” says Robert W. Kemple, Jr., executive vice president, sales and marketing – Americas, ASCO Numatics.

“Our goal in 2013 with the ASCO Numatics Scholarship Program — as it has been over the past five years — is to identify and support the nurturing and promotion of the best-of-the-best students of today in their training and journey to become our next generation of engineering leaders tomorrow,” Kemple said.

Since its inception in 2008, the ASCO Numatics scholarship program has awarded a total of $50,000 in scholarships to 10 students pursuing careers in industrial automation-related disciplines, and it has provided a total of $10,000 in grants to eight schools of engineering.

"The ASCO Numatics scholarship helped me pay for my last semester’s tuition and receive my degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. It has encouraged me to continue to strive for excellence as I start my career in manufacturing," said Kelsey Johnson, recipient of a scholarship from ASCO Numatics in 2012.

Brad Perry, now an engineer at The Boeing Company, said receiving the ASCO Numatics scholarship in 2008 had an impact on him as both an academic and professional. “The scholarship further led me down the path to make a difference, push the limits of technology, continue to provide quality products, and push myself to difficult but attainable goals.”

The ASCO Numatics scholarships are merit-based and will be awarded on the candidate’s potential for leadership and for making a significant contribution to the industrial automation engineering profession, particularly as it relates to the application of fluid control and fluid power technologies. A panel of ASCO Numatics executives and independent judges will select the finalists.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program in an instrumentation, systems, electrical, mechanical, or automation engineering discipline at an accredited U.S. educational institution for the 2013/2014 academic year. Candidates must also maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, and be a U.S. citizen or legal U.S. resident. Several changes to this year’s application process will make it easier for engineering students to participate.
