Which was the "greener" purchase—packaging-wise? A Sangiovese in a Tetra-pak, or a Shiraz in a bottle? Is a Tetra-Pak container more ecologically-friendly to produce? Are bottles easier to recycle? One was from Italy, the other from Australia, which compounded the problem. The carbon footprint for both was large compared to a locally-produced wine. The decision was too difficult: "In the end, I did what any sensible consumer would do—I bought them both." Still, the questions beg an answer.
