Pregis, a global supplier of protective packaging, mailing and bagging solutions and flexible packaging, has acquired MP Global Packaging, a division of MP Global Products. The acquisition complements the Pregis fiber-based packaging portfolio and supports continued investment in sustainable material innovation and temperature-sensitive shipping solutions.

The acquired business operates two manufacturing facilities, in New Albany, Ind., and Norfolk, Neb., and employs approximately 110 people. It produces paper-based thermal packaging used to protect temperature-sensitive shipments, enabling curbside recycling where collection systems exist. Pregis will continue to serve existing customers of the business while investing in scaling the technology.

Strengthening a Fiber-Based Cold Chain Platform

The acquisition strengthens the company’s position in the growing cold chain market and complements the paper-based cold chain solutions Pregis has been developing. The acquired technology creates packaging that provides thermal insulating properties made from macerated cardboard. Pregis views this capability as a strategic avenue for fiber-based cold chain solutions.

This approach mirrors the successful expansion of Pregis EverTec paper mailer technology, which was acquired in 2020 and scaled into a business producing more than one billion mailers annually across five dedicated manufacturing facilities. Pregis will apply the same investment-led, growth-oriented approach to scale its cold chain platform.

“At Pregis, our Purpose and 2K30 commitment challenges us to deliver packaging solutions that create value for our customers while advancing a more sustainable future,” says Kevin Baudhuin, Chairman and CEO of Pregis. “Sustainable, fiber-based materials are an increasingly important part of our portfolio, and cold chain packaging is a natural extension of that strategy. This acquisition brings proven technology, deep expertise, and an experienced team that will help accelerate our ability to scale paper-based thermal solutions and support customers in achieving their own sustainability goals.”

Reid Borgman, who led the MP Global Packaging division and joins Pregis to continue leading the operation as VP & GM of Cold Chain, says, “Becoming part of Pregis brings more resources and reach to the customers we serve and our employees. Together, we can advance innovation in fiber-based cold chain and expand our portfolio of solutions that deliver the performance, protection and sustainability the market relies on.”

The business will continue to operate from its current facilities, and Pregis will work closely with employees, customers and suppliers throughout the transition.
