Jones Healthcare Group (“Jones”), provider of advanced packaging and medication dispensing solutions, is expanding its Qube and FlexRx™ medication adherence product lines with a reported first-of-its-kind sustainable packaging for pharmacies. The Qube Pro, FlexRx™ One and FlexRx™ Reseal are designed to lower environmental footprints for pharmacies and patients alike, while also saving pharmacy care teams time to dedicate to patients.

Medication adherence packages, also known as blister packs, organize medications by the time and day doses should be taken, to help patients and their caregivers stay on track with regimens and improve health outcomes. Jones’ new adherence products use good natured® Bio-PET, a medically approved bioplastic made from renewable resources without any chemicals of concern, and also recyclable across most households in North America.

“We continue to focus on circular design principles for our products to bring more sustainable packaging to the marketplace – it’s our responsibility, and it’s important to our pharmacy customers and the patients under their care,” says Trevor Noye, senior vice president, medication adherence at Jones. “Not only is our new packaging the first to use leading-edge Bio-PET, but it also uses foil-free backings to improve recyclability.”

“We are impressed to see Jones taking the lead on sustainability in the pharmaceutical packaging industry and are honoured to be their partner to make that happen,” adds Paul Antoniadis, CEO of good natured. “Sustainable plant-based packaging alternatives are now economical options, while at the same time doing good by the planet and human health.”

Pharmacists continue to provide an increasing number of care programs for communities such as vaccination delivery, chronic disease support and medication counseling. This means teams are turning to pharmacy automation technology to help package prescriptions, so more time can be dedicated to patients. The Qube Pro, FlexRx One and FlexRx Reseal are compatible with a range of automated robots that fill blister packs with medications, as well as semi-automated filling technologies from Synergy Medical (SynMed®), McKesson Canada, Global Factories, and more.

“These solutions have been designed to increase efficiency and quality of sealing in both automated and manual filling environments,” notes Noye. “Our team visited a number of pharmacies and identified design enhancements that reduce time and motion, as well as improve repeatability. The Qube Pro and FlexRx One require half the time to seal versus similar products and are easy to assemble.”

Pharmacies can begin using the Qube Pro, FlexRx One and FlexRx Reseal in the first quarter of 2022. Jones will release more details on each solution as it becomes available.
