World packaging 'capital' shifts to interpack

Steel packaging issues to be heard

A wide range of professionals from all parts of the steel and packaging supply and marketing chains will focus on all aspects of "Steel for packaging" at the Second Intl. Steel Packaging Congress, May 6 in Dsseldorf. The conference is again sponsored by Apeal, the Assn. of European Producers of Steel for Packaging (Brussels, Belgium). Moderating the Congress will be Mike Hewitt, publisher of Marketing Magazine.

Retail trends in packaging will be the topic covered by Christopher Field, author of The New Consumer, and by Andrew Doyle of Holmes & Marchant Intl. How packaging decision makers look at steel packaging is the subject for speakers including Lars Wallentin of Nestl of Switzerland, Erica Carpenter of Erasco/Campbell's of Germany, Jean-Claude Sucur from Bonduelle in France and Marnix Denys of Akzo-Nobel.

Steel for packaging designers will be covered by an international representation of designers. Speakers include Grard Caron of Carr Noir in France, who is co-founder of PDA, the Pan-European Brand Design Assn., Andy Knowles of Jones Knowles & Ritchie of the United Kingdom, Jan Oldenburger of the Dutch company Millford-Van Den Berg Design, and Lutz Kothe, of the German Institute for Packungdesign.

European canmakers will reveal new developments in steel cans. Speakers include Poul Bernd of Glud & Marstand, plus representatives of CarnaudMetalBox, Impress Metal Packaging and Schmalbach-Lubeca/Continental Can Europe. The steel producers will be represented on the program by Germain Sanz of Sollac in France, Chris Elliot of British Steel Tinplate and Andreas Lankenfeld of Rasselstein Hoesch in Germany.

Finally, covering the legal and environmental issues will be Kate Trollope, of European Packaging & Waste Law in the United Kingdom, and Philippe Wolper of Belgium's Cockerill Sambre.
