Sustainable tube packaging from Norden

In Europe, not all toothpaste tubes come in cartons – to reduce packaging material usage, more tubes are now being tray packed and shrink wrapped for use as point-of-sale display packs.

Could this sustainable packaging technique be coming to a store near you? Perhaps, and at speeds that keep up with Norden's 500 tpm filler!

For Norden Pac, it's a proven secondary packaging technique for its ELAU-equipped high speed tube filling & packing lines. For us, it's a great sustainability idea from interpack 2008.

Norden Pac lines can run up to 500 tubes per minute. That's a lot of toothpaste, but with 6.8 billion sets of teeth to brush, the planet needs plenty.

Norden specializes in tube filling, cartoning and tray packing using pick & place robots to feed the fillers and ELAU servo systems for such tasks as main drives, tube transports, filling pumps and lift, synchronization between machines, transfer of filled tubes, carton erecting, and automated changeovers.

The interpack demonstration featured a fully integrated system consisting of a Nordenmatic tube filler operating at 170 tpm, check weighing and inspection of individual tubes, and cartoning.

Norden also notes that ELAU makes communication with business systems very easy to integrate. For consistent control and integration, Norden consciously has applied the same ELAU control atmosphere across its product line, from its smallest to largest machines.
