Robotics provider open to multiple control systems

Headquartered in The Netherlands, Codian Robotics recently opened a North American sales office in Jackson, MI. A specialist in the delta robot market, the firm believes it can differentiate itself from the already established vendors of robotic packaging solutions because, as general manager Gregory Lee Brasic puts it, "We don't try to tell you what control systems you should use. Our goal is to be compatible with all major control system manufacturers' offerings. We leave the decision about which control system is most appropriate for your application up to the people who would know best.... you and your design team members. We will of course pair developers up with resources from their control system vendor of choice, but we are in the business of designing, building, and marketing the best delta style robots we can produce."

Brasic continues: "If you have a preferred controls manufacturer, and are regularly using their hardware to control and operate your machines, we offer you the possibility of incorporating delta style robots in a fully integrated controls architecture. It is our belief that allowing you to use our robots in an integrated controls architecture leverages the investment you have already made in the controls equipment of your choice, lowers total cost of ownership, and elevates the degree of integration and functionality of your system. We currently have over 600 robots in the field worldwide running on control systems from Rockwell Automation, Elau, Siemens, B&R Automation, and others. Our robots have been functioning reliably in these diverse systems and applications for over 10 years."

Codian's belief in controls simplification is consistent with a general trend—in evidence at the last two PMMI shows and at interpack, as well—that could be called "demystifying packaging robotics."
