Pack Expo 2004: Flexcell horizontal cartoning
PACK EXPO WEB EXCLUSIVE: Triangle is offering its Flexcell horizontal cartoning machine at its booth, S-806, at Pack Expo International 2004. Cartoner is designed and built around third generation digital servo motion control. The result is a compact cartoner with an insertion method that propels, not pushes, products into cartons. This eliminates pushed insertion jams and mechanisms such as barrel loaders, product trays, pusher arms, and confiner assemblies. At speeds to 100 cartons/min, machine has fast, 5-min changeovers.

Pack Expo 2004: Air-Paq inflatable packaging
PACK EXPO WEB EXCLUSIVE: Pactiv offers a look at its new Pactiv 9000 Air-Paq® engineered inflatable packaging at its booth, S-2342, at Pack Expo International 2004. Air-Paq is a durable, resilient, and efficient packaging solution available in 2- and 3-dimensional shapes. Design features a series of adjoining air tubes that are securely inflated to cushion and protect lightweight products during shipment. The tubes are connected via a series of patented one-way valves. If one chamber is punctured, the others remain inflated. Product is loaded into a deflated package. The Air-Paq is then inflated through an external valve. Air travels through a sequence of air chambers. The package can then be loaded into a carton for shipping.

Pack Expo 2004: Gripveyor conveyor system
PACK EXPO WEB EXCLUSIVE: Hartness offers its Gripveyor conveyor system at Pack Expo 2004 in its booth, N-3817. Conveyor system easily handles unstable, difficult-shaped bottles. Grippers grab bottles of product at their base, reducing jamming associated with air conveyors. Transport device allows for high-speed conveying of any shape plastic bottle. Conveyor system can be paired with the company’s Dynac accumulation system for seamless transport of product throughout a packaging line.

Pack Expo 2004: Compak II bagger
PACK EXPO WEB EXCLUSIVE: Kliklok-Woodman is introducing its Compak II bagmaker at Pack Expo 2004 in its booth, S-1601. Machine can produce a maximum bag width of 250mm at speeds of 35 bags/min. Machine has been updated with advanced electronics and servo motors for added reliability and lowered maintenance. The Insight® color touch screen is a graphics-based operator interface that uses pictures and icons to make the system simple to operate, providing higher productivity. The Compak II is equipped with a single pneumatic control point and simplified wiring, allowing for faster trouble shooting and reduced spare parts needs.

Pack Expo 2004: Infinity Series 3-D accumulator
PACK EXPO WEB EXCLUSIVE: Garvey introduces its Infinity Series 3-D accumulator at Pack Expo 2004 in its booth located at N-3813. Wrapping and bagging machines can deliver their output to a single Infinity 3-D, and the system will automatically discharge the packages of product (flow-wrapped packages, bags, trays, and cartons) – oriented – to one or more downstream machines. The system also provides accumulation between the upstream and downstream machines, dramatically increasing the overall throughput of the line. No complex mechanisms or controls are required. Packages are accumulated, oriented, and discharged via the natural flow dynamics of the machine.

Pack Expo 2004: Accutower dynamic buffer system
PACK EXPO WEB EXCLUSIVE: Krones is introducing the Accutower dynamic buffering system at Pack Expo 2004 in its booth, S-2466. In the Accutower, containers move on a conveyor that is arranged in the shape of a vertical spiral, requiring significantly less space than traditional buffer systems. Accutower is easily configured into existing lines. Other advantages include: *Processing of unusually-shaped containers; container orientation remains the same. *Bottle never leaves transport chain. *Chain is run on only two drive motors, resulting in less maintenance and less energy consumption.
