Unique tray delivers phones

Swiss Voice AG, Hombrechtikon, The Netherlands, launched its new telephone line ISDN/WAP to the European market in September ’01 packaged with a protective injection-molded tray made of potato starch and natural fibers.

According to Swiss Voice, the 140-g tray supplied by PaperFoam (Barneveld, The Netherlands) provides low tooling costs, excellent representation, and almost no dust. No further comments from Swiss Voice were available. PaperFoam designers created a one-piece mold that exactly fits the 300mm X 200mm phone. PaperFoam recently received packaging approval from the German Post for its innovative material. Under the brand name Deutsche Telekom AG, another version of the phone packaged with the PaperFoam protective tray is being sold in Germany and Switzerland.
