Food, beverage, and pharmaceutical manufacturers can now achieve high end graphics on a wider range of label media with an ink technology enhancement being launched by Epson America Inc. Using a variation of Epson’s UltraChrome ink, which is known for its long-lasting and instant drying capabilities, the ColorWorks C7500G label printer allows industrial manufacturers to print on demand color labels on glossy media at the high speed of the C7500 for the first time.

The new ink helps produce bright, vibrant colors that are almost photo-like in quality and, when combined with glossy label media, lend a premium look and feel to packages. Powered by Epson’s PrecisionCore print chip technology, the robust, bench top printer is ideal for high-mix, low-volume applications that require a large number of label varieties.

By transitioning to an on demand color labeling solution like the ColorWorks C7500G, manufacturers can reduce total labeling costs by up to 50% by eliminating inventory of traditional black and white or preprinted color labels and waste. On demand color labels also improve productivity by minimizing labeling and shipping errors and changeovers.

“The critical benefits of on demand printing are sacrificed if you don’t have ink that adheres quickly to the media it’s being applied to, which is why glossy labels have traditionally been a hurdle at this speed,” explains Andy Scherz, Senior Product Manager at Epson. “We’ve been able to overcome that challenge with the ColorWorks C7500G and manufacturers can now leverage the benefits of on demand color labeling across a wider spectrum of applications.”

The ColorWorks C7500G uses the same underlying technology as the successful ColorWorks C7500 model. It comes equipped with ZPL II programming compatibility to allow direct plug-in replacement for manufacturers operating two-step printing with traditional thermal transfer printers. The printer produces full-color labels from blank stock by automatically merging “color pre-print” images that are stored in the printer’s memory with existing unmodified monochrome data streams. The ColorWorks C7500G is based on the newest PrecisionCore Linehead head technology that offers an image resolution of 600 x 1200 DPI at speeds up to 11.8 inches per second with very precise dot placement.
