Uniform compliance date

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has established January 1, 2008, as the uniform compliance date for new food labeling regulations issued between January 1, 2005, and December 31, 2006.

FSIS acted to remain consistent with the Department of Health and Human Services and to minimize the economic impact of labeling changes.

HHS and FSIS will set uniform compliance dates in two-year increments. These time periods will give the industry a chance to manage label inventories and develop new labeling materials as required, said FSIS.
