This recognition is based on the technical recyclability of the packaging tube innovation with the HDPE bottle stream. The recognition culminates from a rigorous process that involved regrinding standard production tubes into pellets, which were tested for density, moisture, and substrate percentage.
Berry performed the Association of Plastics Recyclers (APR) Critical Guidance testing to validate the recyclability of its tubes with HDPE bottles. While this does not guarantee acceptance of tubes in individual recycling programs, this is an important step for fostering tube recycling. Berry is the only tube manufacturer that offers an HDPE flip-top cap for tubes.
Five different tube formats, with varying levels of substrate, barrier materials and decoration processes, including flexographic and silkscreen printing, were included in the test. Berry Global’s recently introduced Divinity HDPE 2 in. flip-top tube closure was included in the testing. The new closure, when paired with one of Berry’s squeezable PE tubes, creates a sustainable single-substrate package.
