RPC Containers UKSC has launched a 5-liter co-extruded blow-molded jerrycan, specially designed for the chemicals and solvents market. Based on the company’s best-selling Compact container, the pack features a nylon barrier material that prevents the migration of solvents and ensures a permanent barrier performance with no breakdown in effectiveness due to abrasion from the contents. The 38-mm tamper-evident cap from RPC Containers Halstead can be specified with PET-faced EPE or IHS wad options to deliver complete barrier protection.

The lightweight pack offers ease of handling and pouring combined with a robust construction that delivers good chemical-resistance and stress crack resistant performance. A feature of the co-extrusion manufacturing process is that the handle is divorced from the container, which helps to ensure almost complete evacuation of the container with minimum residues.

The new container provides a modern and cost-effective alternative to the traditional tin for solvent-based products, with the added benefits of no corrosion and a high resistance to denting during handling. It is suitable for both retail and business-to-business markets with a large decoration area for high profile branding and the inclusion of product information. Tactile danger warnings can also be incorporated for individual products.

The container builds on RPC UKSC’s experience in the design and manufacture of co-extruded barrier containers for the agrochemical market. It is currently undergoing assessment for UN approved freestanding packaging for group II products with up to 1.2 specific gravity (SG). The new pack is able to run on the same filling and capping lines as for the existing 5 litre Compact container.

“This is another exciting development in our standard containers portfolio, which opens up interesting possibilities in new sectors,” comments Mike Winston, General Sales Manager, RPC UKSC. “The properties of the pack combined with our experience and expertise in this technology provide both commercial and technical opportunities for companies handling solvent-based products.”
