Cosmetic and toiletry demand to expand

According to a new study called Cosmetic & Toiletry Containers, U.S. demand for cosmetic and toiletry containers is projected to expand 2.6% annually to 23 billion units in 2007.

Hair care, oral hygiene, and skin care represent the largest markets. New cosmetic product introductions and a broadening line of products for males, teens, and young adults will also drive expansion. The Freedonia study says plastics will continue to represent the growth segment of the industry’s packaging. Plastic containers are forecast to grow 3.3% during that time, paperboard 1.6%, metal 1.2%, and glass by 0.1%. Squeeze tubes will fuel plastics growth, according to the 310-page study. It’s available for $3꽤 from The Freedonia Group, Inc. Contact Corinne Gangloff at 440/684-9600, or visit www.freedoniagroup.com.
