12 notable packaging innovations in 2009

One blogger’s perspective calls attention to packages from around the world that consider sustainability and also answer functional needs with defining structural designs.

What makes for a truly innovative package? Ask 10 people and you could get 10 different answers, but Shelf Impact! and international brand consultancy Dragon Rouge conducted a series of surveys of SI readers in 2009 to set metrics for innovation.

The results, along with dozens of packages reviewed, appeared in SI in December.

SI Editor Jim George has come across another perspective on noteworthy packaging innovation in 2009, this from blogger and international print media journalist Anton Steeman.

These 12 packages, Steeman notes, were selected for both graphic and structural excellence, and perhaps they’ll inspire your creative thinking on everything from temperature-sensitive labels to threaded finishes for bottle closures.
