PakScan(TM) from EG&G Astrophysics Inspection Systems (Oak Ridge, TN) is a high-speed food inspection system that automatically detects for foreign materials in packaged products.

It's said to offer a compact design with the ability to reach conveyor speeds of up to 200'/min. Intelligent software uses six levels of comparison to accommodate varying thicknesses of product. It identifies a variety of contaminants in all types of packages, including vacuum-packed items and packs made of metallized substrates. It detects for metal, glass, stones, bone and seafood shells, PVC, TFE, rubber, concrete, ceramic and ingredient lumps. Meets FDA regulations for cabinet X-ray systems.
