Both machines are made by Arpeco (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada). "With the web press we can receive a customer order on Monday and have cartons printed and delivered by Friday of the same week," notes Herb Badal, president and general manager of Sonoco's carton division. "After we set up for die-cutting and special coating requirements, we can quickly change printing plates for different SKUs. This approach reduces set-up time and waste, and supports shorter runs," says Badal. Sonoco Engraph is based in Altanta.
Applications news
Based on the success of a 16", eight-color press added to its Charlotte, NC, plant last year, Sonoco Engraph installed a 10-color, 16" web carton printing press earlier this year at its Robinsville, NJ, plant.
