Canada is overhauling its 18-year-old strategy on sustainable packaging and corporate responsibility.

The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment has closed a comment period and is now working toward a new Canada-wide standard on packaging and waste, with the goal of implementing it by the end of the year. Within six years of launching the voluntary National Packaging Protocol in 1990, the weight of packaging waste sent for disposal was reduced by half four years ahead of the target date.
