Fresh juice warnings?

Despite reports in the popular press, FDA isn't in a rush to require fresh juice makers to pasteurize their products after last fall's outbreak of illnesses (and one child's death) from E.

coli-tainted apple juice, according to FDA spokesman Arthur Whitmore. One option is to require pasteurization of only apple juice and ciders, while requiring all other fresh juices to carry a warning to consumers of a potential risk, suggested Dr. Patricia Griffin of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at an FDA hearing in December. Whitmore said FDA will issue guidance or proposed rule making during March or April.
